I have just heard of the passing of my dear friend and our classmate Dennis Ishler - Below is the obituary from the Whidbey News Times.

Dennis Patrick Ishler, born in 1960, died Nov. 5, 2011, in Hillsboro, Ore. He was a loving father, son, partner and friend. He will be missed by many. Dennis attended Oak Harbor High School and was active in the NJROTC. He enjoyed the discipline and camaraderie and was a member of their award winning rifle team. After graduation, he attended the Marion Military Institute in Alabama where he graduated with an associate degree. He attended Central Washington University until joining the United States Marine Corps and served honorably for eight years.
He then moved to Portland, Ore., to be closer to family. Dennis enjoyed hiking and exploring caves around Mount St. Helens. He was also the family genealogist.


Dennis is survived by his parents, Glenn and Bea Ishler (from Alabama) and Sandra and James Maloney (from Hawaii); partner, Ronald Yoder: siblings Thomas and LeAnne Ishler, Mary Beth and Mark Mohler, Jo Ann and Roger Duron, Michelle and Eric Kent and Jeff and Paul Bodin; his children, Megan and Shane Ishler; former wife, Angela Ishler; along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family. A remembrance social was held Nov. 12 in Hillsboro

I am totally shocked by this news.  Dennis had kept up with me from the days of classmates.com early in the century.  His dad lived not that far from me from the Alabama/Florida stateline.  He told me lots about his love of hiking, and mountain climbing.  He had not given me any indications he was sick. 

I noticed I hadn't heard from him, and started to email him to see what he was up to, and then I find this in the process.  Total shock.
